haiku
www.oneword.com - one word, so little time [tale]
I grabbed his tale and ran. "Hey!" he called out, "Give that back!" But I ran up the stairs with the pages clutched in my hand. I was determined to read what he had written about our encounter the night before. I know he was marketing it as fiction, but I had a right to know how he had described the event. Besides, I wanted to know what he had changed my name to to protect the innocent. *cough cough*

www.oneword.com - one word, so little time [tail]
I grabbed the tail of his jacket and pulled him into the cloak room with a giggle. He laughed back at me and then buried his hands in my hair and pressed his mouth to mine. I surrendered completely to his kiss and sighed in his arms until someone showed up looking for his coat...

Fibonacci Poem
Fibonacci Poem
www.oneword.com - one word, so little time [waltz]
It was really the strains of the waltz that put me over the moon. The magic of the night was distilled from the random bubbles of the champagne and the desultory glints of moonlight into a shining jewel of memory by the smooth caress of three quarter time.

www.oneword.com - one word, so little time [steep]
Steep step after steep step I inched, or rather footed, my way up the side of the sun temple of Chichen Itza. I knew little about the people whose feet had worn these steps smooth on top and even less about the purpose of their footfalls. I only knew the view I saw when I turned around...

www.oneword.com - one word, so little time [gravity]
When I tried to scrape my self off of the sheets in the morning it felt as though someone has turned up the gravity while I was sleeping. I dragged myself down the stairs and put the kettle on hoping that a bit of caffeinated steam would give me a lift.

www.oneword.com - one word, so little time [nest]
I curled myself back into the cozy nest of bedclothes, but I could not find my way back into the dream that had been interrupted by the arrival of the garbage truck under my window. The best I could do was embrace half remembered images and snuggle into the mood of my departed dream.

55 Fiction Friday
It was clear to Jessica from the moment she had seen her deceased mother’s portrait that deception was out of the question. There could be no doubt of her identity. Still, as she sat staring at her father, she could not decide how to begin explaining to him where she had been all her life.
www.oneword.com - one word, so little time [shell]
Just as he was beginning to warm up and come out of his shell, one of the boys rushed into the room and startled him. The golden apple snail retreated, pulling his antanae in and hiding from the world.

haiku - Happy Thanksgiving
www.oneword.com - one word, so little time [weave] (for Jay)
As we weave our lives together, the pattern begins to alter. There are new and more vivid colors, but other designs begin to fade as their importance diminishes and new plans take their places. No combination could be more complex or more well matched.

I dropped sprout after sprout into my little straw basket. They were so small that the whole harvest made little more than a serving. Still, to be picking brussel sprouts in November was pretty gratifying.

www.oneword.com - one word, so little time [intricate]
As I ran my fingers over the intricate etchings on the blade of the sword I had found, I suddenly realized that there were strange letters hidden there. "Runes." Gandalf muttered, looking over my shoulder, "Ancient writings." I looked over to Bilbo who was fooling around with a dagger a little way off. His litter ears perked up, "Whatever are 'runes?'" He asked.

Wrapped Up In Loose Ends (for Jay)
Once again
my doubt runs
away with my hope
stride for stride
like contestants
in a three legged race
tangling each other up
in confusion and fear
and the desire
to believe
in that line
at the finish.

www.oneword.com - one word, so little time [twirl]
There are so many things that can be twirled. I don't know where to begin. There are moustaches, umbrellas, licorice whips, thumbs (oh, wait, that's twiddle), one's hair around one's finger or a man around one's finger. Yeah, that's a good one.

www.oneword.com - one word, so little time [ballet]
She sat quietly in her booth and watched the complex ballet that went on around her. The busboy ducked under the arm of a server as she swirled through with carefully balanced regular and decaf coffee carafes. The hostess guided a couple through a forest of advancing and retreating chairs to land them gracefully in yet another booth.

Steelers vs. Browns
I can't believe I'm doing this, but I've accepted the following challenge from The Drew:
"Browns vs. Steelers
OK, Steeler fans, are you ready to put your money where your mouth is? So what if you are Super Bowl champs and us Brownies have been sinking like The Titantic almost every single year since our return: Wantta bet? No-no, no sissy money wagering, either, I'm talking bigger then that- baby. This wager is only open to my fellow bloggers. Now, here it is: The loser of the bet has to put the winning team's logo on the upper right hand corner of every single post they post on their blog until the two teams meet again!!! Come on...any takers????"

haiku - Hey, Samual Spade, what kind of tree is this? (reprise)
Sam, back in August, I facetiously asked you to indentify an ivy covered tree. Now that the ivy has dropped all of its leaves, I took another picture. Does this help?
If time removes the
veil of foliage, does that
reveal anything?

www.oneword.com - one word, so little time [step]
Step by careful step I approached the partially open door. I could hear the heavy breathing from within, could almost smell the obsession radiating from the room’s occupant. I crept forward and peeped around the doorway. His house of cards had reached an astonishing thirteen stories.

55 Fiction Friday
Jessica stared dumbstruck at a portrait of herself…except. The blue eyes were not right. At a gasp from the doorway, she turned and found herself facing her own wide gray eyes.
“Your grace,” she curtsied, “you don’t know me…”
“How could I not know you?” He interrupted, “I’ve been searching for you your entire life.”

www.oneword.com - one word, so little time [continue]
I couldn't really see a reason to continue, but I took my pen up again anyway. For a while I just sat there with my pen between my fingers and my eyes roaming randomly over the blank page. Finally I wrote down one word and then another. Before I knew it I had filled the page with my thoughts and emotions. Then I folded it up and put it in the envelope that I had addressed to you.

www.oneword.com - one word, so little time [separate]
We're just too different. I like comedy while she's a drama queen. I like tea while she's coffee drinker. I'm open minded; she's a Republican. While we both felt it would be best if we went our separate ways, the shackles that held our ankles in close proximity made that impossible, and the guard wasn't going to let something like irreconcilable differences get him to give up the key.

She wrapped her arms around her knees and began to rock back and forth chanting a little mantra to herself. It was just too much. She couldn't face it. When her roommate came in, she found her crouched there in the corner of the still untouched dorm room crooning, "Cleanliness is next to godliness." softly to herself.

He had crept up behind me and was breathing down the back of my neck. "Heel, boy." I muttered.
