A stormy day weatherwise with gale force winds and heavy rain. I ventured outside once to feed the animals and it was bitterly cold. I was rewarded with 3 eggs from our chickens.

Fair Damsel makes good use of eggs: boiled egg & shallot tarts.😋

Trying to replicate a flower pattern from a picture led me to playing with some of the techniques I've learned making various flower and granny square patterns. My result looks like a lotus in a pond and brings me to 9 of the 13 squares I need for my patchwork tote.

I took a cat applique pattern from YouTube and extended the tail to make Kindness Kitty Bookmarks. I'm going to set them loose in a nearby public library and a Little Free Library.

I decided to keep Mr. C company while he cleared a patch for potatoes. Nushuku decided petting her was more important than crocheting. Still I managed a new sunflower bookmark.

Mr. C and I walked down to the old well by Michel's fruit trees so I could take a photo for my oubliette poem. I noticed that one of the apple trees had a broken branch. I brought it back to the apartment. The apples are unripe but I will attempt apple butter as I can add sugar.

In 2020 I planted this oak seedling in what is now The Octopus's Fairy Garden. I'm finally having some success at turning it into a bonsai. In the past couple of weeks it's formed 3 new branches allowing me to prune it back down to the height I wanted. I added some moss to the planter today.

We went to Intermarche this afternoon. I love seeing the ever-changing wildflowers along the field verges. Today we spotted gorgeous, delicate pink musk-mallow (Malva moschata).

Our skylight garden was getting crowded so I crocheted a plant hanger for the Davana Fern (Phlebodium aureum), aka blue star fern, that Mr. C gave me last month for the anniversary of our first DM. I spent the evening pruning and deadheading the other plants.

One of the things I really enjoy about #crochet is playing with colours. After making 2 rainbow versions of this little flower shaped bag I decided to try a monochrome one. I like how it turned out. Link to the YouTube tutorial I followed below. I added a round of Single Crochet to the rainbow ones so I could use all 6 colours. The original pattern is only 5 rounds.

Sarah brought us some yummy Algerian food that she made: the little croquettes are called Sfiriya and the pepper and onion dish is Chakchouka. Absolutely Sunbeamadelicious! 😋

French stick insect (Clonopsis gallica)

Mr. C called me out to identify a plant in the driveway but my attention was arrested by a rhythmic movement in my pot of violas by the front door. It was a French stick insect (Clonopsis gallica), the first I've ever seen in the flesh. How cool is that?

Currently, when I learn a new #crochet stitch, I do it with bulky yarn and add it to this sampler. I'm thinking it will be a scarf eventually. So far I've done Waffle (blue) Bead (green) Star (yellow), and Jacob's Ladder (pink) since I started doing this.

We got a good quality toilet seat cheap at Le Noz which is printed in Spanish. I've been learning French and it's been over 30 years since my last Spanish class. I had suspected it was a bit naughty and was right, "To love and to the bathroom he (she, or they) goes naked." 😳😂

Another rainy start brightened by Sarah treating us to her homemade almond cakes.

Later we drove into town for essentials and I took a detour on the way home to show Fair Damsel a field of sunflowers.

They were paying their respects to a fallen oak.🌞

Have you ever had one of those projects where you were torn between being determined to finish it and wanting to throw it out of the window? I was making this scrap yarn coin purse when I lost the first round of yarn chicken. After frogging, changing plans, and winning the second round of yarn chicken, I was feeling pretty good about myself...until I started on the seems only to discover, to my horror, that I'd left out an entire cluster. Another round of frogging, reworking, seeming and buttoning and I can't decide if I like the result. I'm just glad to be done with it.
