Wild About Tiger Lilies

I have a passion
for the tiger lilies
that grow in profusion
along Pennsylvania's roads.

The ones people keep
in their gardens
are nice...too nice.
They are too deeply colored
too unrumpled
too cultivated.

Tiger lilies should be
Crayola orange
and surrounded by
crown vetch and sumac.
You should have to
climb over Jersey barriers
to pick them.

Tiger lilies should be wild!

When I was a kid, I used to make my dad pull the car over so I could jump out and pick tigerlilies!

Floots: She was the character I wanted to be in Peter Pan! I hope you will show us some montbretia on your site. I'd love to see what it looks like! Ah! Scotland! I got to go to Edinburgh once. Loved it! Next time I come across the pond, I want to see some of the wilds of Scotland instead of the cities.
