I'm startled to find

denizens of Wild Kingdom

in my own garden!

I'm pretty sure it's a caterpillar that something has laid parasitic eggs on. When I looked really closely at the little white things, I could see that the tops of some had been opened and they were empty because something had already emerged from them. Eeeeeeewwww!

The caterpillar is a member of the sphinx moth group -- a beautiful group of moths. The eggs were laid by a wasp that parasitizes the caterpillar. The caterpillar would not surive.

Thanks, Rob! It didn't seem to be very happy or healthy, just gross!
