Miss Watson must really like the bright colours of the scrap granny square tote I just started. I didn't mind until she actually started to try and eat the yarn. 😹 Look at that plaintive look and the way she clung to my thumb when I wouldn't let her. 😻

Fair Damsel treated us to homemade Cornish pasties tonight. Then, with the leftover pastry and a sprinkling of sugar she made tasty sweet bites.

Today I lost at yarn chicken coming up short by 2 rows on the second handle of my tote. 😔 Unwilling to admit defeat, I executed a stunning reversal. I detached the first handle, frogged 1 row and used the yarn to add 1 row to the second handle. Victory! 😁

With temperatures in the 80s we finally made it to the lake for a spot of fishing and a picnic. I caught 5 tiddlers and as we were leaving a huge fish leapt out as if to say, "Can't catch me!"

We spent a lovely afternoon by the lake. Mr. C caught and released 5 little fish. I crocheted a star. And look what I almost stepped on walking back to the house! 🦔 Thank goodness I spotted it! I'd have badly injured it and probably fallen if I'd put my foot down!

Fair Damsel was strong enough to go to the post office at 11:30 and to town this afternoon. Her efforts were rewarded with sightings of fuchsias, bullocks, sunflowers and a host of different birds.

Seeing cows used to be a rarity for me but, since moving to the French countryside, not seeing cows when we venture out is the rarity. Actually, these ones are steers: pas des vaches mais des bœufs.

I managed a rare trip to the post office and was rewarded with some unexpected blossoms en route. We seem to be having a second Spring here. I can't remember ever seeing fuchsias blooming in October before. #flowers

When Mr. C took Fifi and co. for their evening stroll, they met a new little friend. 🦔

While I was outside photographing the sunset and filming the hedgehog, sweet Limonaid came over to see what I was up to. I didn't have a treat for her but I have some nice, crunchy celery I'm going to give her tomorrow.

I haven't been up to walking much for a while but Mr. C gave me an incentive to venture the length of the paddock and back. He had spotted a hedgehog foraging there earlier. It's the first time I've seen one just happily being a hedgehog, not in need of help. It made me happy. 🦔

Another scorcher so I didn't do much. Fair Damsel, on the other hand, produced a delicious roast which went down a treat as we watched The Wizard of Oz. She also made banana teacakes which we'll be toasting later.

Great thing about cooking in the crock pot and baking with yeast is that it comes with built in rest periods. If all goes well we'll have roast beast with carrots, potatoes, button & oyster mushrooms, and gravy for dinner as well as banana raisin teacakes for a bedtime snack.
